Hannovera A

One of the very best machines in my collection is this Hannovera A. It was probably made around 1925, but looks almost new, and must have had a very sheltered life, and little use. Also the wooden case is nearly perfect.

An interesting tidbit about these Hannovera machines is the indication of the direction the machine is turning in. There is not just a +/- indicator, but as a kind of gimmick, also the eyes of the owl on the top cover change colour. I suspect that made these machines a coveted asset for keeping small children quiet at the office ...

The other variant of this machine, the Hannovera AK, has a moveable shroud over the revolution counter, so it always indicates positively, regardless of the direction of rotation. The larger variant of this machine (Hannovera really thought big) was the B/BK, which had the capacity 20 (!) x 12 x 20.
